What policy is applied to trip changes?

AmTrav applies travel policy to trip changes made online and with Advisors

AmTrav applies travel policy on trip changes made online, in the mobile app and with AmTrav Travel Advisors. Policy applied includes air and rail policy (cabin limits, fare limits, etc.), hotel policy (hotel stars, nightly rate limits, etc.) and car rental policy (car rental vendors and class, daily rate limits, etc.).

In addition under Flight Policy you can set a maximum airfare change policy to limit the amount that bookers and travelers can pay for a flight change (if the change increases the fare from $400 to $700 or $300 and the change limit is $200, that's out of policy).

(There's no similar limit on hotel or car rental changes, those are limited by the overall rate daily/nightly cap.)

In addition, under Booking Management you can manages changes whether they are in policy or our of policy. For in-policy trip changes you can allow the trip change, allow and have a notification sent (to anyone on the booking or listed in Notification & Approval Emails), or require approval, which triggers an approval request to the listed approvers on the policy. The same three options can be selected for trip changes that are out of policy.

Note that bookers and travelers are required to give a policy violation reason and explanation if policy is broken on a change.

Note: AmTrav recommends that you allow or allow and notify on changes. Why? Because you've already approved the trip, any subsequent change falls within the existing change and shouldn't need to be re-approved. Further, changes are time-sensitive and cannot be booked and held the way initial bookings can be, so prices may increase or options may disappear while approval is being requested.

As mentioned above, policy violations are clearly flagged (both in results and on trip change page) and require a reason and explanation:
